Description
On Blue Grass Favorites, Earl Taylor & Jim McCall and The Stoney Mountain Boys offer listeners a straightforward helping of old-time string music. Listeners who enjoy early country recordings will recognize the straightforward style and the storytelling in these songs. The sound draws on the older country tradition, where simple arrangements and plain-spoken singing carry the songs.
It belongs to the Heritage Collection Series, which keeps vintage Rural Rhythm recordings available to today’s listeners. The performances by Earl Taylor & Jim McCall and The Stoney Mountain Boys keep the emphasis on the song rather than on studio polish. The word “favorites” in the title says it all: these are songs audiences have returned to again and again. Mountain imagery runs through the title, and the music matches that rural, hill-country feel. This is a compact disc release.
Younger listeners curious about the roots of country music will find it a useful introduction. Questions about this title can be sent through our Contact Us page.
