For collectors who want to see the music as well as hear it, Bill Monroe Pioneers and Legends Lester Flatt, Mac Wiseman, Jim and Jesse DVD features Bill Monroe, Lester Flatt, Mac Wiseman, The Lewis Family and Jim & Jesse on screen. The sound draws on the older country tradition, where simple arrangements and plain-spoken singing carry the songs. It recalls the days when country music was heard on radio barn dances and in small-town halls.
Watching the musicians lets you see the technique behind the sound. It is offered in DVD format. Rural Rhythm Records has long specialized in bluegrass, gospel and traditional country music, and this title fits naturally within that catalog.
